Mission Plaza: Japanese Cultural Fair
In 1879, only 4% of fruit and vegetable crops originated in Santa Cruz county. Thirteen years later, the first Japanese immigrants arrived in Watsonville. Just a couple decades later, Santa Cruz County was responsible for over half of the nations’ produce, largely thanks to the Japanese immigrant community! There’s so much more to the story and so much more to the culture. You can experience it all at the annual Japanese Cultural Fair! Enjoy culture, crafts, music, food and more. Free parking will be available at the Santa Cruz Government Center located in the designated parking area for the fair where you may access a free shuttle to the fair at the historical Mission Plaza.

The folks at Roberts Ranch will show you how to set aside the dried lavender buds (unopened flowers) for culinary use throughout the year and taste some simple and delicious recipes to inspire your summer cooking. Everyone goes home with a large bundle of fresh Roberts Ranch lavender, a bottle of dried culinary lavender, lavender lemon cookies and lots of ideas! This is a fun workshop for all (and there will be snacks & drinks for those under 21) A perfect gift idea for special occasions! While Dan and Laurel play, enjoy a tasting of 5 of the current Roberts Ranch wines complete with abundant charcuterie boards! Meats, cheeses, crackers, nuts, fruits, chocolate and even warm appetizers make appearances at this lovely and casual tasting experience. Each Summer on Thursday evenings, the Crow’s Nest offers its Summer Beach Party series with fun and funky live entertainment right on the beach. The party starts at 5:30 pm each week and goes until sunset. With live entertainment on the outdoor beach stage and Crow’s Nest’s famous BBQ and outdoor bar, beach parties are a unique and popular event. Families are welcome, and there is no admission charge! After the sun sets the fun begins upstairs with dancing to the best of local live bands beginning at 8:30 pm with only a $5 cover charge. Evening train and dinner excursion departs from the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk and travels along the San Lorenzo River through Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park to Roaring Camp. Upon arrival, a delicious steak dinner awaits you. After dinner, get up and move to a live band. On the return trip to Santa Cruz, the train ride brings the forest to life with dazzling color and light. The evening event is four hours, returning to the Boardwalk when the stars are overhead.
