Little People’s Repertory Theatre presents “The Wizard of tOyZ” this summer and invites you to break out of your toy box and join us for a ‘twist’ on The Wizard of Oz unlike any you have seen! For over 40 years, LPRT has the reputation of Santa Cruz County’s best alternative children’s musical theater! “The Wizard of tOyZ” features over twenty musical numbers, with a cast of over 70 children ages 7-14 singing and dancing to parodies of contemporary pop and classic rock tunes. This original rock musical by Janinne Chadwick is directed by Daria E. Troxell, with music direction by Gabe House and choreography by Haley Clarke, and will be presented at Park Hall in Ben Lomond July 17-July 28, 2024. Seymour Marine Discovery Center: Younger Lagoon Reserve Tour
Seymour Marine Discovery Center: Younger Lagoon Reserve Tour
This 90-minute, behind-the-scenes hiking tour takes visitors into Younger Lagoon Reserve adjacent to the Seymour Marine Discovery Center. Part of the University of California Natural Reserve System, Younger Lagoon Reserve contains diverse coastal habitats and is home to birds of prey, migrating sea birds, bobcats, and other wildlife. Come and see what scientists are doing to track local mammals, restore native habitat, and learn about the workings of one of California’s rare coastal lagoons. A tour is offered on selected Thursdays and Saturdays of each month beginning at 10:30 AM. Younger Lagoon Reserve tours are free and open to the public. Space is limited to 18 participants. Advance reservations are highly recommended using the website link below. Tours are best suited for children 10 years of age and older. Participants must be physically able to walk up and down steep inclines. Water and weather protection is strongly suggested.

Friends and neighbors, join us for a Stroll to Aptos Village! It's easy to participate! Just pick your starting point, choose your route, then walk or bike safely to the Aptos Village Green. When you arrive, we invite you to take a brief survey, meet with representatives from local pedestrian safety agencies, enjoy a snack from our event sponsor, New Leaf Community Market, and win prizes from Aptos Village merchants. We’ll send you home with information to audit your return trip and future walks you take so you can report pedestrian, bike and road hazards. We are excited to announce that this year’s stroll is being funded by a generous grant from America Walks. https://americawalks.org/ Welcome at 10:00 am, prize drawing at 11:00! The goal of the stroll is to increase awareness and accessibility for all non-drivers, and specifically students, seniors, transit riders, families, and those with mobility impairments. Commuters face a very challenging drive as traffic backs up through the Aptos choke point on both sides of Highway 1. Those who opt to use Soquel Drive through Aptos Village add to the congestion of locals trying to reach village businesses. Each of us who chooses to take our car off the road want drivers to appreciate this by respecting pedestrians and cyclists who use much less road space than a vehicle. Increased safety measures will help remind them to do so. Aptos residents love to walk and ride bikes and we want to do it safely. Please join us!

Seymour Marine Discovery Center: Younger Lagoon Reserve Tour
This 90-minute, behind-the-scenes hiking tour takes visitors into Younger Lagoon Reserve adjacent to the Seymour Marine Discovery Center. Part of the University of California Natural Reserve System, Younger Lagoon Reserve contains diverse coastal habitats and is home to birds of prey, migrating sea birds, bobcats, and other wildlife. Come and see what scientists are doing to track local mammals, restore native habitat, and learn about the workings of one of California’s rare coastal lagoons. A tour is offered on selected Thursdays and Saturdays of each month beginning at 10:30 AM. Younger Lagoon Reserve tours are free and open to the public. Space is limited to 18 participants. Advance reservations are highly recommended using the website link below. Tours are best suited for children 10 years of age and older. Participants must be physically able to walk up and down steep inclines. Water and weather protection is strongly suggested.

From Trees to Shining Seas – Felton to Santa Cruz. Departing from the Santa Cruz Mountains, travel through Henry Cowell Redwoods State Park, down the scenic San Lorenzo River Gorge, across a 1909 steel truss bridge, and through an 1875 tunnel before arriving at the Santa Cruz Beach Boardwalk. Reverse roundtrips departing from the beach in Santa Cruz to Roaring Camp and back may be purchased from the conductor on the train departing from Santa Cruz. The Santa Cruz Big Trees & Pacific Railway operates passenger and freight services on one of the oldest and most historic lines in California. When the route opened in 1875 it carried lumber as well as picnickers and tourists to the Big Trees and Santa Cruz. Today’s Beach Train passengers can start their roundtrip journeys from either Roaring Camp in Felton or from the beach in Santa Cruz. Departs from both the beach in Santa Cruz and Roaring Camp.
