Free Online Parent Drop-In: Youth Mental Health

The Center for Child and Adolescent Mental Health offers free Parent Drop-Ins, 1-hour sessions where parents can seek guidance from experts specializing in specific youth mental health disorders. Parents can also connect with others facing similar challenges. Each Zoom session is hosted by expert clinical psychologists who specialize in anxiety, depression, eating disorders, substance use, suicidality, and psychotropic medication. Parent Drop-Ins are held on the last Wednesday of every month at 5:30 pm. Register to receive the Zoom link, and submit questions ahead of time. Loch Lomond: Aquatic Species Loch Walk

Take a scenic walk around Loch Lomond with City Ranger, John Roskelly, and environmental habitat surveyor, Michelle Tarian. They will be pointing out things to notice on your walk you may have never considered, discussing what has happened with invasive species throughout Santa Cruz County. They will talk about actions being taken at Loch Lomond for native species. This is your chance to explore with an expert at your side! The monthly “Loch Walks” are included in the entry fee for the Recreation Area. There is a $10.00 charge per vehicle for entrance to the park. Walk participants are encouraged to dress for variable weather conditions and to wear proper footwear for hiking on dirt trails and for changes in elevation. The Loch Lomond Recreation Area is a 180-acre reservoir and part of the 2,800-acre watershed land holdings that the City of Santa Cruz Water Department manages in the Newell Creek watershed. Loch Lomond serves as the City of Santa Cruz’s only drinking water reservoir. Loch walks are free and do not require a reservation, but the size of the group is limited to 25, and there is a sign-up sheet for first come, first served. Part of the University of California Natural Reserve System, Younger Lagoon Reserve contains diverse coastal habitats and is home to birds of prey, migrating sea birds, bobcats, and other wildlife. Come and see what scientists are doing to track local mammals, restore native habitat, and learn about the workings of one of California’s rare coastal lagoons. A tour is offered on selected Thursdays and Saturdays of each month beginning at 10:30 AM. Younger Lagoon Reserve tours are free and open to the public. Space is limited to 18 participants. Advance reservations are highly recommended using the website link below. Tours are best suited for children 10 years of age and older. Santa Cruz Shakespeare Summer Intensive Program

Spots Available for Santa Cruz Shakespeare’s Summer Intensive Santa Cruz Shakespeare is offering a new summer Shakespeare intensive program for high school students, ages 14-18, Monday, July 8 - Friday, July 12, 9:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m.. Students will be guided through practical exercises to prepare them to take center stage in an abridged version of As You Like It to be performed on stage Saturday, July 13 at 10:00 a.m. at Santa Cruz Shakespeare’s Audrey Stanley Grove (The Grove) in Santa Cruz’s DeLaveaga Park. The high school summer program, which takes place at the Veterans Memorial Building, 846 Front Street, Santa Cruz, will include workshops in movement, text, and voice and rehearsal time with Shakespeare experts. Students will become more comfortable with public speaking, learn how to do close reading of text and incorporate that into performance, and gain confidence with self-expression and artistic abilities. Cost is $1,000 and includes access for one student and one adult ticket to our professional performance of As You Like It on Saturday, July 13, right after the student performance, as well as a souvenir sweatshirt.
